hey guys

I'm looking for a little advice as to making my next characters look Wink

basically i'm playing a new world eidolon that was at one point closely related to serpent (though that is OOC knowledge letting you know for the purposes of brainstorming)

I've talked to PD and in their heads the new world eidolons are the momnsters and demons of the real worlds aincent myths (cool or what). So I want to go for something bestial and kinda feral looking, however I have one big problem with this I freak out if i wear facial prosthetics or masks, I just can't do it for any length of time

I have no problem wearing full facial makeup or anything like that but i can do the hats, wigs, prosthetics thing

so i'm looking on advice as to what to do both costuming and make-up wise

i've had a few thoughts though, my costume is prob gonna be a pair of trousers composed of scrap furs etc all roughly sewn together, and a coat roughly similar (i'd need to be comfortable in my constume so will be yielding to my own sense of comfort) this will be kinda LT beastkin style if anyone here knows what that means, the effect i'll be trying to create is tons of furs all piled over each other, i don't know what to wear with that though, for shirt etc

then as far as face and hair goes i was thinking a kinda snake skin effect (bit naff and obvious though) and then, if anyone knows if it would be possible, i would like to do a snakes in my hair effect, like a medusa kinda thing, i don't know how you'd go about doing it, probably cloth type things, that you seal in using hair glu or else light rubber things, and those removable extensions.

So thoughts people? I could go a whole male gorgon root, try and find some ancient greek looking clothes (though not a fucking toga, possibly something white on the inside and shimmery on the outside) do serpent contacts, and try get a whole load of the snakey things for my hair...I'd also need to get fake nails, for talons...hmmm i'm liking that idea, what do people think?

Righty, the person to talk to would be my missus. She makes her own hair pieces and is making large dreads a la Predator made from foam (v light and wriggle by themselves with the slightest movement, like snakes). I'll prod her later (and ask her about this, f'narr) Wink

The normal way to attach is to tie it into a pony/pigtail normally, but we can somehow sort out some kind of aliceband/wiggy appliance (although gawd knows how... Smile

what i figured i'd do is put in extensions to work them in and put in a few i'd do a bunch of them if you can tell me how

Bearing in mind if your hair is short and you're putting in extensions AND extra bits it'll kill your scalp. It's the best effect but you can kiss comfort goodbye. I once did this (although it was for clubbing, not larp) and I actually felt faint because of the pain in my scalp. Better to have naturally long hair and attach it to that, else a wiggy hairpiece is probably the better option.

I knocked this together, cos I'm better with a pencil than I am with a pen:)
Rams horns made fom latex, with an ear muffler type attachment, would help keep the snake dreds in place too.

Ahhh, sweet idea! That would mean that the piece wouldn't have to directly attach to the head!

With the foam that Tori uses the snakes (dependant on length) would spring around with the slightest movement (head/breeze/etc) so would look like living snakes.

ok i could probably cope with something liket hat (thanx chris i love the idea), questions would it muffle my hearin? how much and how hard would it be to put something like that together?

thanx for all your help guys. All the ideas i kept having were eventually discarded due to many factors so it's really nice to be getting fresh help

from the looks the idea is safe. and practical,
might be worth asking the wasps how they did there flesh dreds.

It's the foam that Tori uses. V cheap, so I'll get Tori to divulge where from.

i got a bunch of them for 50p each from dunelm mill stores,

just need to work out a nice way to latex them with out it soaking in to much.

ok so on the list of stuff for me to buy in my efforts to make snake hair thingies (bear in mind i have no artistic background or real ability beyond music)

hair net thingy - to tie snake thingies onto
foam lengths (what are these, brand names etc)
liquid latex to paint on the foam thingies
craft knife (to cut foam into snakey shape)
paints (what type paint onto latex? n do i need varnish?)
loved the idea of some kind of horn things that chris suggested, what would you all recommend?

will get my hands on fake nails and serpent contacts on my own

thought about the idea of going for some kind of fangs, for a snake concept two central fangs suits best any idea where i could get them? or are they a pants idea, never worn fake fangs

can you think of anything else i'm forgetting or help me fill in the blanks. I'm a thuroughly crap person at this kinda thing, i much better with glittery flutery things Twisted Evil

Right, your dentist will curse me but when I was a dodgy goth (rather than just dodgy) I used to use fake nails cut to a point and nail-glued to my canines. They last a night, you can eat and drink with them but be carefull not to cut them to too fine a point or you rip your lips to shreds.

Superdrug sell fake nail kits with both nails of different sizes (so you can match them to the size of your teeth) and the glue you need (which I have tested is similar to superglue).

Not sure of the permanent effects on your enamel, but I used to wear them every week for about a year and my teeth are still fine with no replacements (although I may have just jinxed myself).

have you found out what substance that foam is yet? I've been trying to locate places in ireland that supply stuff like it but it's hard without knowing the textile.

Right, the stuff you get in haberdasheries is a bit poo, and the stuff from places like B&Q isn't that tough so she's digging out the URL where she bought hers from.

oh brilliant the sooner you can get that info to me the better, cos it means i might be able to get my costume in order in time for the next event!!

even if she can't find the url if she can remember what the stuff is called i can google and do some research, i hate putting other people to effort (listening to me is enough i would think ;op)

I was going to add my two peneth however the idea that Gward'ogan has come up with rocks!
I think this will suit the Eidolon your going for amazingly well really well - its like a Gorgon so it is really cool.

Excuse me I'm off to go and froth on the prospect of have Serpent devoted Eidolon....
