Lining a wooden box with velvet

I'm about to line a cheap but nice box with red velvet. Any do's and don'ts? Just cutting the velvet to shape and sticking it in seems a little simple and I'm trying to envision how good/shite that will be. Should there be some kind of edging and/or padding?

My suggestion would be, cut some thin board, ply or hardboard, to fit in the box, so it shuts, with just enought play to allow the velvet to cover the board.

I would then stick padding to one side and then stetch the velvet to cover the boards, you could always button the velvet afterwads for a really posh box.

Slide in teh boards, and tehy shouldn'y ned fixing, but if they do, some PVA (wood glue) or hot glue should sort it out.

Hope that helps Smile
