the type I think your looking at are a little larger thank ordinary contacts and therefore a little more tricky to put them in.
I personally dont suffer any discomfort with my white outs, but be prepared for some loss of night vision, as the 'colour' on the lens is opaque, when in dark environments your iris will open up wider than the hole in the middle, and things will seem darker than usual.
On the optical side of things, the prescriptions aren't always as diverse as the standard lenses so you may be out a litle 0.25 or so, and prolonged use can give you tunnel vision, but that is from constant wear I belive, also they aren't as breathable as standard modern lenses, and you may find your eyes getting tired and aching after a 3 or 4 day event, I would recommend wearing glasses for a good few days to a week afterward to let your eye recover and breath again.
I say this form a personal point of view, as I wore standard lenses for the best part of 7 years with no glasses wear at all and was forced to wear glasses for 5 years afterward as no opticial would prescribe contacts due to blood vesel growth in my eye creeping into the iris. Now I dont want to put you off, cos like I said I have no problems with them at all for events, but I follow these guides and through personal stupidity realise some of the unexplained dangers.
On the plus side, when I've worn mine to go clubbing in I never wait long to get served

I don't need prescription contacts, but I do have a very fine pair of black lenses for the maelstrom events. They are somewhat larger and thicker than normal contacts I believe. Despite this, I have had no problms wearing them. I did however have problems getting my optition to agree to measure my eyes for them. On the whole its because they are worried about how you will use them and once they get involved they have a duty of care thing going on. They also like to deal with suppliers they know so they can garantee quality. Basically by ordering special fx lenses you are opening up a can of worms for them. It ended up being a bit of a saga for me in terms of time and money. I had to agree to an eye test I didn't need, another appointment for the eye measuring. They wouldn't give me the measurements so I couldn't order them myself, but had to order through them so they could check them out before I started to wear them. I then had to have another appointment to be shown how to put them in etc and be lectured on all the potential risks. Was it worth it?? Definately!!

I've worn standard contact len's for 8 years or so too, I hav'nt had any adverse effects wisth them so far (cept for that one time I did'nt neutralize the solution and put peroxide in my eye, that hurt.... and left me blind in one eye for a day, but hey :p), The diameter of the len's is 14.5mm which AFAIK is standard these days. little worried bout losing night vision, but hey. persccription wise, I've got an astimagism in my eye so one is designed for that, so I've in short been told they will be unsuitable for driving. SoI'm going to try them however they may come out for the nighttime if the vision is little too restrictive.
Thanks for the advise mate

The site I got mine from is 9mmsfx by the way. I think they will do pretty much the whole range in prescription

I had the same problem, but the optician was just downright rude! He refused to give out my perscription firstly, then made an excsue for why he could'nt verify my perscription, then refused to give me information other than stating that they don't supply them because they think they are dangerous (personally I was of the opinion that as they, an old "established" optician that has been running small scale for about 30 years, they could'nt afford the overheads like Vision Express can for example, who unfortunatly don't have the designs I want AFAIK), I did eventually get all the information I wanted but it was blood out of a stone,

I have had optitians try to hold on to my perscription, they dont like giving them out cos they know there is only one reason for having it and that mens they loose business, glad you got it though, cos they actually dont have a leg to stand on the goverment mafe it illegal to refuse giving you your current perscription.
(have also put hydrogen peroxide in my eye, thank the maker for all in one solutions )

Specsavers do some rather subtle and nice "Freshlook" lenses which are great! Want purple or very pale eyes? They're great for it. Only probs I've found is they're slightly more irritating than my 30 day constant wear jobs, but only in very smokey environments. Apart from the above I haven't tried those ones so can't comment really.
