Wooden chest required

Hi all, I'm needing a large-ish wooden chest to store all my IC guff in during events and for storing my stuff at home in between events. It needs to adhere to the following;

1) Fits in the boot of a Fiat Punto (ie, boot space is huge for a small car but still not cavernous)
2) Lockable (or at least has features for a padlock)
3) Carry handles (if it's heavy)

I've looked on eBay and there's nowt there at the mo... I don't suppose anyone here either has an old chest they want rid of or are able to either advise me on making one or are able to make me one for much cheapness (me being unemployed at the end of the month)?

Where do you live? I've seen quite a few wooden storage boxes with various metallic embellishments in "Sidiq" in Oxford and "Stone the Crows" in Leamingtong Spa. Don't know if they're chains but if they are the one near you should have them.

They generally come in 3-4 sizes from about 30 cm to 1 m long and range in price from £30-80. They are functional, have metal latches for padlocks and aren't stupidly big so they're not that heavy and should fit in cars. I could take some digital pics the next time I go passed and ask about prices if you want. I've been looking for stuff like this too and I might get one myself soon.

You could also try general house and home stores because these things seem to be in fashion at the moment.

Hmmm, I'll see if there are any stores near me (Felixstowe, Suffolk). Cheers dude. Smile

If you're going to get one anyway you might want to ask if you can get discount for more than one. If you can then I'll give you the money to get me one as well.

If you get stuck I have one of the boxes that B&Q used to sell. Will fit a decent amount of kit in and although currently not got a lock on it, one can be added easily so yuo can padlock it. It has a small cut out at each end where you carry it. I should be able to bring it to the next event or if you aresomeone not too far from me I can bring it to you or you could collect it. I'm about 10 miles outside Chester just into North Wales.
Heinrich

Thanks for the offer Branwen, but driving that distance is a bit much for either of us;
Voila

Is it going to add lots to your load if you bring it to the next event?

B&Q you say? I might have a sqiuz this weekend. Smile[/url]

Had you asked before the pub meet you would have been half way Smile

Cheval d'escalier mate. Wink

Horse Staircase?

You on shrooms?
Branwen

I can bring it to the event. B&Q no longer sells the style I've got and accordng to my mate who does loads more reenactment than I get a chance to currently the new ones are nowhere near as god. SOme of that is to do with the hinges. The hinges on this box are inside where a sthe new ones are external meaning easier for someone to IC say they've broken into it.

It's a french saying (or as near to it as my poor French will allow) meaning "the things you think of after the event has happened"... and I think the translation was suppossed to be "the horse under the stairs". Beats me as well. Smile

How much did you want for the box Branwen, and how big approximately is it?
Branwen

Ok the box is 14" tall by 15inch deep by just under 32" long. It realy takes a lot of kit. I know its what I've used it for before I've tried to minamise kit owning.

As to what do I want for it umm make me a reasonable offer and I'll be more than happy.
Heinrich

Egads! I don't know hwo much to offer as I'm not sure what they're worth new... suggestions? What would you like for it?
Branwen

How about I bring it along and you pay me something. I think they're about £30 to buy but don't quote me. Being lazy and not looked to see if I can find them on a web site.
