I'm trying to get all the maths done to build an ic "pyre" for burning certain naughty people (not you guys btw :p).
It looks like i'm going to be building a wooden frame and then boarding it over with a set of orange and red leds underlighting through a grill on top. I've already sourced non toxic smoke grenades to use in the box for the burning effect. it's just making it so it is structuraly strong and stable enough for somebody in metal armour to stand on. Basicly i'm looking for some help with the trigonometry and anybody who can give some advise on woods to use as i havent done any woodwork in about 5 years external

I am pretty good at maths if you want me to help do any calculations just let me know what you need calculating.
I don't know much about wood work but know people who do so may be able to get some recommendations on that as well. |

I'll see what I can do, you think 20stone would be enough weight for the thing to be able to carry?
I will check with my Dad (carpenter), and our props guy Matt (Stage Carpenter RSO) to check the size of timbers. do you have any dimentions for those drawings? or a desired height? |

God man, i'm 20 stone without my armour on 
it's about the right mark though. i've just noticed that those sketches are not actualy very structuraly sound so i'm going to be redrawing again. some people have suggested that i us a flat sided box, but the i'm personaly of the opinion that the sloped front and back will allow firewould to be piled against thebox a lot easier. Also considering putting a step into the back, which co-incidentaly will be where i can store the power supply for the lights I'm looking at 18-24 inches in height with a 2.5 foot square foot print. I've already sourced the gridle material for the upper surface, thank god for auto factors as the only thing strong enough i've found has been car radiator grilling. I'm looking for the upright to be 4 foot plus the height of the box. It will be too difficult to transport a full length central pole so i'm going for a half length one with a ring attached to it. Attaching to the ring i'm going to have a set of "handcuffs" which themselves are attached individualy to a set of Carabiner to allow people to safely and easily remove the cuffs from the post in case of an emergency. For smokes i'm going to be testing Enola Gaye white 30 second (the exact amount fo time it takes to execute somebody... how convenient) smoke grenades in the comming weeks to see what effect they have with underlighting. In truth the market smoke grenades are likely to spoil the effect. THe underlighting LED are actualy sourced from another motor factor and can be powered by plugging directly into my jump starter via cigarette lighter which means the electronics are a doddle. This actualy brings up a few funky ideas for you guys, actualy, as you can get these same things in uv and would be a interesting effect for a tent for wraiths when combined with the right makeup. I've been thinking about how to accomplish these sort of effects for a while now. |

I'm more than happy to lend this out, although i may require that the executions take place in a designated area where myself and bill pennington can keep an eye on what is going on. The best part of this is that baring construction (about £50-60 including all the parts) to reuse the effect will only cost about £2 a time so is reasonably easy to keep doing. I would love to see several of these going at the same time, with "firewood" piled up around the base to disguise them, plus peasants with pitchforks and torches

what about using a smoke machine instead of smoke grenades?
You also I would suggest need it to take the weight of more than 1 person as you may well have 2 people on there at a time one person to be burnt and another one to be chaining them up/rescuing them. |

There are several reasons. Primarily because the type of smoke produced. smoke machines are realy more mist machines where as the market smokes, while being safe, produce a much better collum of smoke that lends itself better to the effect.
In addition i'm trying to avoid having to worry about additional wiring and waterproofing for something like a smoke machine. While the LEDs are low drain, a smoke machine tends to have a a higher drain on batteries. One way of powering a smoke machine could easily be leads from my small generator, but those are leads i'd need to cover as trip hazards and i feel the generator itself (as opposed to a battery pack) would detract from the immersion of the scene I do agree with the idea of making sure that the platform can support multiple people is sound though |

fair enough (re smoke machine) I think I know someone who has a battery powered one but I may be wrong. My concern with smoke grenades is I know they burn very hot but yet again as long as they are contained shouldn't be a problem. We wouldn't want it turning into a real burning at the stake

BD I think you will find since a few acidence at airsoft and paintball events all grenades even the flash bangs burn cold... could be wrong though.
A mate of mine was telling be his collegues were showing off their grenades in the car park where he worked and he was setting them off on his car, no decernable damage, he apparent;y even set on off inside it. |

THese grenades are actualy cool enough to hold when they are "burning". Indeed it's the best way i've found of laying down a descent smoke screen while using a pistol instead of my main assault rifle,lmg,carbine,grenadelauncher combo

if you use 4x2 timbers for the main body and cross brace it, it won't move. if your using a grate, place it over 2x1 floor joists, as you can place these in joist hangers and put them in when needed. these were the main timbers we used for our 2 floor gate house, and that had 8-10 people on top at one point

Although the smoke grenades etc are notoxic you might wat to consider the effect of them on anyone with breathing roblems. EG asthma. I knw that the smoke/mist from a smoke machine doesn't really bother me but some of the stuff from the burning smoke pellets can give me an astma attack. If it can effect one person it can effect others and I know a fair few lrpers who have asthma let alone the mirriad of other health problems out there. | ||
